          Immigrant Rights

Please view the resources below regarding immigrant rights.

Immigrant Rights; Michigan Schools: This resource is designed to help district employees, by role, create safe, supportive environments for immigrant students and families by aligning policies with legal requirements and best practices. Grounded in the Supreme Court case Plyler v. Doe, FERPA, and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, it provides guidance for reviewing enrollment practices, developing district policies, and building staff knowledge.

Michigan Immigration Rights Center: Our staff are always working hard to serve our clients and Michigan’s immigrant communities. We encourage appointments at our offices. You can call us at (734) 239-6863 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. with questions or contact your advocate to discuss your case. Immigrant workers with questions about employment issues can call our farmworker and immigrant worker rights hotline at 1-800-968-4046.

ACLU Michigan: The ACLU has been one of the nation’s leading advocates for the rights of immigrants, refugees and non-citizens, challenging unconstitutional laws and practices, countering the myths upon which many of these laws are based. The ACLU supports rights for all people within the United States and is committed to expanding and enforcing the civil liberties and civil rights of non-citizens and to combating public and private discrimination against immigrants.

Immigrant Justice Lab (IJL): IJL is a collaborative public humanities project at the University of Michigan, with growing ties to other campuses and communities.
