CHRISTINA ROOT

 

    Christina Root holds a limited license in social work and was most recently a service coordinator in a HUD Section 8 apartment building located in Detroit. During her time in this role, she served 200 senior citizens and adults with disabilities by conducting assessments and monitoring needs, connecting them to mental health providers, making referrals to substance use treatment programs, hosting social and educational events, and more.

Christina completed the advanced standing Master of Social Work program at Wayne State University with a concentration of Innovation in Community, Policy & Leadership. She is also an alumna of Oakland University (OU) where she received her undergraduate degree and extensive experience as a volunteer and advocate for international students. Diversity and inclusion are important to Christina, which was recognized when she was awarded the OU Keeper of the Dream scholarship for her efforts to break cultural barriers and promote interracial understanding at the university.

She is also a proud resident of Oakland County and is passionate about advocating at the community level. She has enjoyed working with various local government leaders and is excited to participate further in the community as an OCHN board member. In this position, Christina will continue her dedication to listening to the needs of others, engaging their strengths and talents, and empowering them to make positive change happen.
