Dr. Bettye Arrington joined the Oakland Community Health Network's Board in 2001. She is currently the managing director of Martin, Arrington, Desai & Meyers, P.C, Certified Public Accountants and Consultants.
Dr. Arrington received her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the American University in 1971, where she received the Faculty Women's Award for Outstanding Contributions to the University Community. She then received her Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in experimental psychology from Howard University in 1973 and 1980, respectively.
She has 39 years experience in the management of consulting engagements in human service areas including, health, education, rehabilitation services, child welfare, transportation, food and drugs, and aging. She has had oversight responsibility for client contracts, involving the evaluation of major social programs; cost analyses; Medicaid and other financial recovery; training and technical assistance; information technology and professional recruitment; and placement.
In addition to her presence on the OCHN Board, she has served on the Boards of Directors for Home Federal Savings Bank, The Children's Center of Detroit, Wayne County, and the American Red Cross Southeastern Michigan Chapter. According to Dr. Arrington, her work in human services has been fascinating, satisfying. She also believes that serving on this Board has given her the opportunity to contribute to the community, which she considers a responsibility and honor.
Regarding the future, Dr. Arrington says, “It is my goal that we preserve and increase funding in support of efforts to maintain a high standard of quality of service, helping people with disabilities become self-directed, independent and focused on wellness.”
